The ABA Beezeebo
In late 2023 ABA purchased a trailer mounted Beezeebo from Central Coast Beekeepers. In late 2025 it was brought to Sydney Metropolitan Area and is currently stored in the Hawkesbury.
The Beezeebo is an excellent community engagement tool that allows a club to talk with dozens of people simultaneously about the art of beekeeping.
It requires a bit of effort to use but it's not difficult. Best of all its available to be booked by all ABA affiliated clubs at no charge.
Since it's been back in the Sydney area it has been used twice by Hawkesbury (see Hawkesbury Show article in this issue) and twice by Cumberland.
What is a Beezeebo and how can my club use it?
The ABA Beezeebo is a trailer mounted ventialated perspex cage that is big enough for a single box hive and two beekeepers.
It allows members of the genral public to get very close to the bees and beekeepers. It fascinates children and their parents alike. It is just and exceptional tool to allow beekeepers to talk to an audience while the work their bees.
Hawkesbury bought a PA system (does not come with the Beezeebo) which allows the beekeepers to be miked up inside their bee suits and also for an external moderator to interact with the crowd, take questions and field some answers. The beekeepers in the Beezeebo can also tell the crowd what they are doing, show them the queen, or answer questions directly.
The cage is stored as a giant flat pack on its own trailer. It takes about 2 hours and a team of 4 able bodied people to assemble or disassemble the Beezeebo. So assembling on site, the day before is generally a good idea. The cage cannot be transported assembled.
The panels are numbered and it does have an instruction video (see below). If you are challenged by an Ikea flatpack, its definitely worth having a trial run to assemble and disassemble the cage.
You should allow 2 hours to disassemble the cage and pack it back on the trailer. Part of that time is to allow you to wash the inside of the perspex windows as they get covered in bee poop.
You also need a bee vacuum to clean up the bees inside the cage prior to disassembly. John Bosshamer from Hawkesbury made a bee vacuum, but it does not come with the Beezeebo
Assembly and Disassembly - Its pretty easy.
The exact assemby and disassembly process is covered in the youtube video.
Two tall step ladders are rquired to allow the assembly / disassembly of the roof panels. They are not included with trailer. Watch video for detail
It is worth taking a series of phone images of the unpack process to assist you packing the panels back so they dont get damaged in transit.
