Entry from Colonel Pulling Award winners Nepean Beekeepers Inc
Colonel Pulling Competition 2026 wrap-up
by Alex Nelson
Secretary – Cumberland Beekeepers.
First and foremost, I want to thank our three judges.
Michael Syme & Jonette from Northern Beaches club and Warren Millington.
Without their support this event would not have taken place.
On behalf of the ABA and myself I express my deepest gratitude.
There was a total of five (5) entries with a surprise late entry from Jack & Julie on behalf of the Inner West club. They did themselves proud and actually presented the best wax block on the day. I hope you enjoyed the experience and will encourage other members of your club to participate in the future.
Winner of the Colonel Pulling Award for 2026
Taking out this year’s trophy was the defending champions, Nepean. They achieved the highest score in four (4) categories. Well done!
Winner of the Bruce White Award for 2026
The Bruce White Shield was won by the defending champions, Cumberland. Though they were wildly wrong about the number of eyes bees possess, they did take out first place for the honey cake. This club punches well above its weight and I am proud to be a member. Just to prove there was no favouritism on my part, they had the lowest score in the quiz 😊
The best frame of honey on the day was presented by Hunter Valley whilst Illawarra had the best candle and tied for first place with their mead.
Thank you to this year’s entrants for making the effort to participate. The camaraderie and friendly competitive spirit was great to observe.
Elsewhere in the newsletter you will find the quiz questions and answers.
I hope that next year we see a doubling or tripling of entries to make it a really significant event to commemorate Col. Guy Pulling and honour Bruce White’s incredibly invaluable support of beekeepers.
Thank you for the interesting experience.
